Albertina Founded in 1776, the Albertina has been the most visited museum in Austria since it re-opened in 2003, with more than five million visitors. In the last eight years, around 75 exhibitions have been held here, with highlights including shows on Dürer, Rembrandt, Rubens, Picasso and Van Gogh. Together with a team of 28 curators and scientific staff, museum director Klaus Albrecht Schröder tries to offer visitors a variety of exhibitions to make art accessible to a broader general public. |

| The historic palace building of the Albertina houses 65,000 hand drawings and a million printed graphics, making it the biggest graphic collection in the world, a photographic collection and an architecture collection. Each year around 500 works are loaned to international museums and institutions. The world-famous collections of the Albertina range from the Gothic to the present-day and include works by all the greats in the history of art: from Albrecht Dürer to Peter Paul Rubens, from Michelangelo, Raffael and Rembrandt to Egon Schiele, Andy Warhol and Georg Baselitz. The collection’s most famous work is Albrecht Dürer’s “A Young Hare”. The collections are presented in temporary major exhibitions in four different exhibition halls and offer a programme to suit every taste in art. The Albertina received a significant addition in May 2007: Rita and Herbert Batliner, a married couple of collectors from Liechtenstein, transferred their collection of 500 works of the classical modern period to the Albertina on permanent loan.
